The vessel from which you enjoy Champagne is incredibly important. While a variety of stemware options exist, certain glasses are particularly adept at enhancing the unique qualities of Champagne.
How your Champagne Glass Shapes Your Sip
Distinctions of each type of glass available:
- Flute: the tall, slender silhouette of a flute elongates the streams of bubbles, ensuring a mesmerizing visual display. Its narrow opening concentrates the delicate aromas, directing them straight to your nose for a heightened sensory experience. However, this isn’t the ideal glass for Champagne, as the aromas are better experienced with a wider rimmed white wine glass
- Coupe: while visually striking, the wide, shallow bowl of a coupe is not ideal for preserving the effervescence of Champagne. The bubbles dissipate rapidly, diminishing the overall sensory experience
- Tulip: with its wider bowl and gently tapered rim, this glass offers a good balance. The bowl allows the complex aromas to unfold, and the narrower opening helps to retain the effervescence and focus the flavors on your palate – but a tulip glass doesn’t offer the best experience for drinking Champagne
- White wine glass: this versatile glass, designed for aromatic white wines, is an excellent choice for Champagne. The wider bowl allows the Champagne’s complex aromas to open up fully, making it a perfect vessel for all Lallier cuvées, including our Réflexion R.018, a Champagne that pays tribute to the 2019 harvest with aromas of citrus, white fruits, brioche and light spice. The tapered rim helps to focus the aromas and preserve the delicate mousse.
Why a White Wine Glass is Ideal for Your Champagne Experience
At Champagne Lallier, we believe that choosing the right glass can truly enhance your enjoyment of our meticulously crafted Champagnes.
Global brand ambassador for Champagne Lallier, Sarah Durand, says: “The perfect glass to use when serving Lallier Champagne should have a long stem, wide bowl, and narrow opening. This is essential for the wine to fully express its bouquet and for the bubbles to develop. ”
A white wine glass, with its generous bowl and tapered rim, is an ideal choice for several reasons:
- Aromatic enhancement: the wider bowl provides ample space for the complex aromas to unfold and develop. The narrower opening of the white wine glass also helps to concentrate the aromas when nosing the wine, delivering a more intense and focused experience. This is particularly important for scenting complex Champagnes. For example, our Lallier Rosé, where notes of fresh cherries, redcurrants and raspberries dominate the aroma, enhanced by fresh apple and mandarin
- Preserving effervescence: unlike a coupe, the narrower rim helps to retain the delicate effervescence and persistent mousse that are hallmarks of a fine Champagne.
